The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
This single piece oak panel remains even and stable. Paint shrinkage is visible in the sky, in the tree to the right as well as the browns in the water along the bottom of the composition. The artist’s use of impasto in the sky and brushwork is highly appreciable. Ultraviolet examination confirms the above and reveals some scattered restoration in the sky along the panel grain, as well as in-filling in the craquelure and the paint shrinkage, particularly in the darkest passages. The expressive brushstrokes in the sky are very well preserved.
